SPG and Uber have teamed up to help you earn more Starpoints from your Uber rides. Here’s why that’s awesome…
Uber is currently operating in 57 cities (and growing)! I’ve had the pleasure of using the service in Atlanta, New York, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Dubai and Abu Dhabi over the past 3 years.
It’s great when I’m at home and the car is being serviced or I need a reliable designated driver. And Uber is quickly becoming my go to for airport drop off and pick ups.
It’s also a cost effective and safer alternative to taxis when traveling. I found my Uber rides to be almost half the price of rides in a regular taxi while in Cape Town. And because payment is made electronically you don’t have to worry about having the right amount of cash on hand in the right currency.
Starwood Preferred Guest Membership Cuts Travel Costs
I’ve been an SPG member since 2006 and held the SPG American Express for almost just as long. Thanks to Starpoints, I’ve stayed at the Sheraton Rio Hotel and Resort for less than $50/night when room rates exceeded $700/night during New Year’s celebrations. I spent a lovely 4 nights at the Hotel Des Indes, a Luxury Collection Hotel in the Netherlands for free. And most recently my extended airport layovers only cost $35 a night at the Aloft Abu Dhabi. These are just a handful of the free and deeply discounted hotel deals I’ve snagged as a result of my loyalty and points accumulation.
Of course you earn points with every stay, but the more points you can earn doing things you’d already do, the better.
Ready to earn Starpoints with Uber? Here’s what you Need to do…
- Join Uber. If you’re not a member of Uber, click here to join as my special guest and get $20 off your first ride (https://www.uber.com/invite/uberTravelAddict).
- Link your Uber and SPG accounts. Head over to the Starwood site to become a Starwood Preferred Guest (if you aren’t already) and link it to you Uber account (https://www.spgpromos.com/uber/).
- Complete one qualifying stay at an SPG property world wide. With over 1,200 hotels in 100 countries, it shouldn’t be too difficult to cross that off the list.
- Start using Uber and collect those Starpoints! Take Uber during a stay at a Starwood property and earn up to 4 times the points.
Bonus: Accelerate your earnings using a reward card for your Uber payment. The SPG American Express is a great option, but any rewards card that gets you to your points goal will do!
