5 Travel Tricks & Tips for Travelistas on the Go

It’s carnival time!!

Travel Tips: Trinidad Carnival Queen

Are you ready for another Traveling Brown Girls Fete?

The Traveling Brown Girls Carnival is back with another digital fete! Last time, participating travelistas dished on their top travel pet peeves, but this time we’re talking travel tips.

As glamorous as it might seem, life on the road can sometimes be stressful, hectic and frustrating. And no matter how long you have been traveling, there’s always a new tip or two you can pick up from fellow globe trotters.

A semi tech nerd, I’m a huge proponent of using technology to make your travels run a lot more smoothly. We all have smart phones and tablets these days, so why not use them to our travel advantage. From services like Trip-It Pro that scans your e-mail to better organize your travel itineraries to airline apps like Fly Delta which offers flight alerts, mobile check in and even bag tracking services (though we pray you never need that), technology can be used to take some of the frustration out of a hectic travel schedule.

Exploring a new city? Download the guidebook to your phone or use Google maps to navigate your way around your new destination. Not familiar with the language and need a translation? There’s an app for that. There’s an app for almost everything!

Find yourself constantly searching for internet or tired of those monstrous roaming charges while abroad? Mi-Fi devices are an affordable option to keep you connected so your friends, family, fans and business don’t miss a beat. A little bit of travel tech savvy can really go a long way…

It’s obvious that I need to step up my game and take a look at some of the travel apps out in the marketplace. *Wondering out loud if I’m old school* Yikes.

    • Some of them are just a big distraction, but the right ones can make your trips go a lot smoothly.

My absolute favorite app is Packing Pro. I have it on my ipad and use it every time I pack!

  • Downloading the travel guide. My Lord, I would have never thought of that. Still operating in the Stone Age! Thanks for the idea.

  • As a tech-fan, I completely appreciate your points about benefits of technology when travelling. I wonder how many of us would struggle with trips without those handy travel apps that are now so readily available? Nice post.

    • I know I would. Those moments between landing in a new country and getting my new phone or finding wifi is the worst!
